It took place at the much-loved Santa Cruz Saturn Cafe, over their top-secret-recipe hot fudge sundaes:

AZ: In your essay collections Sexwise and The Sexual State of the Union, you wrote about the hypocrisy of our government meddling in the sex lives of its citizenry. You were one of the first people to talk about politicians in a kind of tongue-in-cheek way as these people whose values are so misaligned with their actual behavior.

Do you think it’s become more obvious how hypocritical government policy is when it comes to legislating and policing sex?

SB: One of my favorite fairy tales is The Emperor’s New Clothes. It seems like, for a long time, puritanism in America has had this very tight class structure that dictates who can be unmasked sexually. You can always take some poor wanker, and make him out to be a dirty old man. But historically, you could never do that with the rich, the protected, the elite. And yet here they were, making the decisions about what everybody else got to read or look at.

I always wanted to make people see that sexual freedom is actually one of the ultimate tests of a real democracy: Do you have the nerve, the courage, to let people educate themselves, make their own decisions about their sex lives? Or are you going to take the mommy-and-daddy-know-best position, where [the government] gets to look at everything, prescreen, and then decide what everybody else is going to do?

A lot of people misinterpret puritan leadership as being a group of people who want to outlaw all sexual expression. No. They’re very interested in looking at it themselves. They want the full range of emotions about everything; they want access to all the esoteric knowledge. But they don’t want you to have it, and that’s where it becomes so important that sexual speech is the number-one suppressed speech in America.

Anybody in this restaurant can stand up and publish that they wish Bush were dead, or that they’d like to take an ax to Donald Rumsfeld— but when it comes to sexual speech, American is petrified.

The version which clearly states an anti-war message and that it’s satire only has 6000 views vs 31,000 for the straight faced satire. People like it when they aren’t sure of the message and have to figure it out on their own, or they are really tricked. Anyway, that’s who Sandy Belle is.

"We'l get freaky like in abu graib"

Basically I miss my army gome back and I'll "****" you off and make you spew and stuff song, but funny.

At first she was nonplussed. Then, when his wife fell in love with the boytoy, hubbie successfully sued the man... under a quaint "alienation of affection" law, for $4,800. I'd love to know how they came up with that number.

The Marginal Revolution parses the tricky question of the matter:

"[The Husband] surely does not have a right to his wife's affection— he can't sue her if she doesn't love him— so if another man steals what Husband does not own, how can Husband have a claim against the other man?"

The NPR coverage of Mr. Attorney General's testimony was brutal.

Just felt like a kid trying to play at being in an adult game and getting crushed and brutalized duing play.

If I didn't actually feel he absolutely did engage in obstruction of justice and did terminate Judicial Employees for improper political reasons, I'd feel sorry for the guy.

This is the problem with a Loyalty based Administration in that it places people in positions of authority who have neither the skills nor the experience to perform the duties required in a professional and competent manner.

I will be the first to admit there were some legitimate political improprieties during the Clinton Years. Whitewater was not a legitimate issue & Lewinsky was overblown but there were some boners that occured because of mid-level abuse of power that should have been called to the floor. However even those were of limited scope and impact.

The abuse of power and arrogance of the Bush administration however is staggering and on Nixonian levels. Actually in some ways even worse. Nixon (I'll assume) was clinically paranoid, but he was a capable statesman and did make some impressive political moves. Bush is just power hungry and stupid.

Sad this man makes Richard M. look to be the nice Mormon he wanted us to see him as.

A massively influential piece of work and multi-layered exploration into what it means to be a human with free will, Solarbabies stands tall over so many lesser entries into the post-apocalyptic-teen-action-scifi-roller-skating-adventure genre.

http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/solarbabies.php
Excerpts follow:

Dismissed as pop culture fluff when it was released in 1986 and, subsequently tagged with the unfair label of "s—-- cinema," Solarbabies, Alan Johnson's audacious—and criminally misunderstood—futuristic science fiction tale offers a compelling subtext on the nature of the human soul and the duality of man.

Solarbabies is a remarkable exploration into a number of human archetypes, and can spawn a litany of analyses, but for the purposes of this review and considering the abbreviated space, I will only focus on the most prevalent interpretation of Johnson's magnum opus—Solarbabies: The duality of man.

There is another level of symbolism at work in Solarbabies, which even more explicitly details the overarching theme of human duality and conflict within the soul: the character of Bodhi. Many critics have pinned a Mosaic label on Bodhi, claiming the alien orb "leads his people through the desert wasteland, ultimately to the promised land, but not before parting the seas to vanquish his foes." (Pierce, 215). While the comparison is valid, I feel a more appropriate analogy is to Jesus Christ. The parallels are difficult to ignore: Bodhi comes down from heaven, takes the form of a vulnerable being, promises salvation from oppression, holds children in high regard, heals physical weakness (e.g., Daniel's deafness), suffers by the hands of the very people he has come to save, breaks his Earthly bonds to usher in a new kingdom, and ultimately ascends into the heavens. In fact, before Bodhi's ascension he dissipates into an energy form, flowing through the Solarbabies, who mention that he "will still be with them." This scene is obviously analogous to the Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended on the apostles (the Solarbabies, here) and the reality and power of the Triune Godhead and the road to orthodox Christian salvation was unsheathed. Salvation in the film is the spread of water, and one can not dismiss the potency of the water symbolism when taken into a Scriptural context: Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God and who is saying to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him and he would have given you living water. The woman said to him, "Sir, you do not even have a bucket and the cistern is deep; where then can you get this living water?" (John 4: 10-12). Like the Messianic Christ, Bodhi has supplied the peoples of the Earth with living water, which will quench both their physical and spiritual thirsts. Some critics, like Spengler, attempt to subvert the Christ imagery in Bodai, pointing to the scene where Bodai calls down thunder, lightning, and rain in the Solarbabies' club room, "which is quite the opposite of what we see in the New Testament, when Jesus calms the storms, versus creating them." (Spengler, 345). It is, at first glance, a damning criticism—until one looks at the Bible as a whole and notes that God throughout brings down harsh weather to meet His Divine needs. Jesus is the Logos and therefore brings down the water himself. The Messiah comparison to Bodhi stands firm.

Click (duplicated) link below and become enlightened
http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/solarbabies.php
